Difference Between POP3 and IMAP


IMAP and POP3 are two different protocols. These should use to access your mail from your mobile device or third-party email client from your website hosting providers in India.


IMAP (Internet Messaged Access Protocol)

IMAP


  • IMAP mainly use for syncs with email server hosting any changes you make in your mail client (Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird) will instantly appear on your webmail inbox.


  • In IMAP is you can access your mail from multiple mail clients and each client detects the change in real-time.


  • IMAP server is connected with two different mail clients (client1 and client 2) on different computers, the user deletes a message in mail client1, the change will appear on mail server immediately and also on mail client2.


  • IMAP uses port 143


POP3


  • If your mail client account and mail server are not synced. It means whatever changes you make to your email account in the mail client will not be transferred to the webmail inbox.


  • POP3 use port 110 and Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) Port: 25 OR 587


Basic Settings


Non SSL email settings


The following settings are the non Secure settings. Use this only if you cannot use the SSL settings. Otherwise, you will want to use the SSL Certificate setup. Note that you will need to change "example.com" to your domain name.


Incoming Server: mail.example.com

Outgoing Server: mail.example.com

Username: Your full e-mail address

Password: Your e-mail account password

Incoming Port: POP3 110 or IMAP 143

Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) Port: 587

SSL: NO

SMTP Authentication Required

Secure Authentication or SPA needs to be turned off


SSL email settings


Below is an example of the recommended Secure settings. The SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol is for connecting to your server securely to prevent network "snoopers" from seeing your data over the network connection. The "secure##" will need the "##" changed to your server number.

Incoming Server: secure##.hostingraja.in

Outgoing Server: secure##.hostingraja.in

Username: Your full e-mail address

Password: Your e-mail account password

Incoming Port: POP3 995 or IMAP 993

Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) Port: 465

SSL: YES

SMTP Authentication Required

Secure Authentication or SPA needs to be turned off
